Parent Support Group

Any way in which you can meet other parents that are facing similar challenges is bound to validate you in ways you may not have even known possible. Not only can you bond and realize that you’re not alone, you can also find comfort in their suggestions and practical tools that have helped their child, that may then be just as successful with yours.

I still have not met a single person that has said parenting is easy. Have you?

Every year of your child’s life can come with its own challenges, such as the lovely terrible twos and the “raging” hormonal teens! There are probably an infinite number of reasons as to why a parent would seek out a support group, and we do not blame any one of them. Any way in which you can meet other parents that are facing similar challenges is bound to validate you in ways you may not have even known possible. Not only can you bond and realize that you’re not alone, you can also find comfort in their suggestions and practical tools that have helped their child, that may then be just as successful with yours. Have you ever thought about a parent support group? There may be one right around the corner with a seat available for you.

First, here is a list of resources that can help you find parent support groups in your area:

Parents Anonymous: www.parentsanonymous.org/programs/parents-anonymous-groups/adult-group/

National Parent Helpline: www.nationalparenthelpline.org/find-support

Parents Universal Resource Experts: www.helpyourteens.com/parent-support-groups/

Pediatric Support Groups from BAYADA: www.bayada.com/pediatrics/support-groups.asp

Mothers of Preschoolers: www.mops.org/groupsearch/

Mocha Moms, Inc: www.mochamoms.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3278&pageid=3295

Moms Club: www.momsclub.org/find-a-chapter/

You may also find that attending events with organizations targeting your specific area of concern, such as Best Buddies International or Autism Speaks, for example, can bring you around other parents that may have similar experiences to you. Local “Meetup” groups or Facebook groups can also provide supportive spaces.

If you are down in South Florida with us, here are some specific groups you may find useful:

NAMI Broward: NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness. They host family support groups in Ft. Lauderdale and Pembroke Pines for families impacted by mental health disorders. There are also multiple groups in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County.

Parents without Partners, Southwest Miami: This is support group specifically for single parents that targets personal growth and self-confidence in both the parents and their children.

Parent to Parent Miami: Okay, so this one isn’t exactly a parent support group, but it provides helpful workshops, such as IEP workgroups and helping children with disabilities or mood disorders. Attending these workshops will also likely connect you with other parents in the community, which can certainly be a way to increase your sources of support.

We hope this helps! Keep up to date with more resources by subscribing to our email list. If you are a parent who would prefer individual services, please reach out to us for more information on individual therapy.
