A psychoeducational assessment is a thorough evaluation that examines a child's cognitive abilities, academic skills, and emotional functioning. These assessments are particularly helpful for identifying learning disabilities, ADHD, giftedness, and other factors that may impact academic success and overall well-being.
Your child or teen may benefit from an assessment if they have difficulty keeping up with schoolwork despite their effort; struggle with reading, writing, or math; or challenges with focus, attention, or impulse control. They may also experience problems with problem-solving, organization, or memory, as well as anxiety or emotional concerns that interfere with learning. Additionally, if they require accommodations or support in school, a psychoeducational assessment can help identify their specific needs.
Our assessments provide clear, actionable recommendations to help parents, educators, and healthcare providers support a child's learning and development. Depending on the results, recommendations may include school accommodations such as IEPs and 504 plans, tutoring or specialized interventions, behavioral or emotional support strategies, and referrals for additional services if needed.
Our psychoeducational assessments involve a multi-step process to ensure a comprehensive understanding of your child's unique strengths and needs. The process begins with an initial consultation where we meet with parents to discuss concerns, gather background information, and understand the child's history. Next, the child completes standardized testing that measures cognitive abilities, academic achievement, attention, and emotional functioning.
We also conduct behavioral and emotional screening to assess emotional well-being and social functioning, identifying any factors influencing academic performance. After the assessment, we provide a detailed written report outlining findings, diagnoses (if applicable), and personalized recommendations. Finally, we hold a feedback session with parents to explain the results, answer questions, and discuss strategies for support.
